Why Passion is Not Enough!

FYP (2)

It’s what wakes us up early in the morning and keeps us up late at night. Passion is an unshakeable feeling for something you want. The feeling is beyond intense; therefore we’d better have a passion for something great!

For most of us, we want a successful business. The passion for a successful business will have us spending hours on the Internet to learn and build our crafts. For some, this can be detrimental to our success.  The problem? It’s just passion. It’s strong will be embedded in our minds and souls, but as powerful as it reads, it’s not enough.

Passion alone is a great way to think without action. When no action is taking place, nothing can get accomplished and frustration is soon to creep in. Meanwhile, others are growing professionally and you don’t know why your breakthrough hasn’t arrived. This can lead to another upcoming end-of-year reflection, where you’ll find yourself making a New Year’s resolution to do better.  So what should be done to compliment your passion – which you certainly must have!  – so that you will finally reach your goals?

Get real about your “why”

You’re probably familiar with “know your why”. It has become the catchphrase of the decade, and with good reason. Without focusing on the why passion decreases and success will be out of reach. Your why – whether it is to build a better future for your family, to support a worthy cause or to help others in business – has to prompt you to take action. If it doesn’t then it’s time to ask how important that why really is.

Give yourself deadlines

Anything that you must get done in order to turn your passion into reality, should have a deadline attached to it. Once you’ve gotten real about the why(s) in your life, create deadlines to get things completed. What should deadlines be used for? Buying office space in six months, getting licensed in 12 months. Perhaps you have things to do ASAP – what are you waiting for? Without deadlines, you leave room for procrastination and another month (or New Year) of emptiness.

Answer when opportunity knocks

If you believe in blessings, why would you block them? Being passionate about something great is one thing, but being brave enough to answer when an opportunity comes a’knocking is another. You’d be surprised how many opportunities I’ve allowed passing by my desk. From guest-blogging to speaking engagements to meeting celebrities. I wonder back then, how bad did I want more. So I’ll ask you the same questions: how badly do you want it?

If you’re not ready to feed your passion by getting real with your why, by placing deadlines on what needs to be done or by taking advantage of opportunities, that’s fine. It just means you’re not passionate about becoming successful…you’re just slightly interested in something.

Eventually, passion will find its way into your heart. You’ll wake up excited in the morning and lose sleep at night. That feeling is wonderful to have but you’ll need to act on it before someone else does. What will you do for your passion? What have you done already? Leave a comment below.  www.JavayJohnson.com
