Three-and-a-half ways to take charge of your life today!

airplane

Let’s face it; nobody wants to admit that their life is spiraling out of control. But just because there are no dramatic sound effects playing, and just because you haven’t thrown a punch bowl onto the floor (Florida Evans style!), doesn’t mean your life is in total control. It happens to the best of us, no matter how put together we can look at times. Take charge of your life today. In three easy steps, you’ll become a better you – and soon, a great help to others who need to take control of their lives. Here are three-and-a-half effective ways to take charge of your life today.

  1. You have to believe it before you see it.

Now, most people call it faith, but it’s not enough to say “I have faith”. You have to believe that you can do anything you want (all things through Christ!) and act as if you’re already in control of things. Faith might not come easy, however. It’s all about taking time to cultivate it; every day, try adding a little faith in small things. For example, today, have faith that you will read a chapter of an empowering book. Soon, you’ll believe the possibilities of a non-fictional page-turner of your own!

  1. You have to just go for it!

The quickest and boldest way to take charge of your life is to dive into the pool of chance and go for it. What is the worst that can happen when you go for it? You don’t get it quite right the first time. This only means you’re in good company of non-first-timers, from Michael Jordan to Beyonce, the epitome of success in their respective fields. By going for it, you have taken a major step towards taking charge of your life. With practice and consistency, you will become the pilot – prepare for takeoff!

3a. You have to be patient.

Before you throw in the towel and lose total control of your life, ask yourself how patient you’ve been. Say you’ve applied for a dream job that will take you beyond the next level in your career, and your email to the hiring manager goes unanswered. Has it been a week before deciding that you weren’t hired? Depending on the hiring manager’s schedule and personal matters, it could take up to a month before hearing back from them. Be patient. Most life-changing events don’t happen overnight.

3b. Know when it’s time to change the plan.

The best part about taking charge of your life is the ability to know when to hold ‘em and fold ‘em. At first, you might become frustrated with waiting patiently for weeks or months, but don’t let time passed keep you from salvaging the present and building your future. Life is a game for adults and you have to learn when it’s time to change your strategy and cut members from your team if applicable (cut the deadweight once and for all!). Don’t get too comfortable in being patient.

When you learn to take charge of your life, you become empowered. Empowerment can lead to a myriad of good things for your life and for the people in your life. Are you willing to admit where you might have allowed your life to fall into the wrong situations? Start there, then believe, go for it, practice patience and know when it’s time to change things up a bit. Have you ever lost control of anything in your life?
